Believe it or not, there was a time many moons ago that I didn’t like spicy food. Looking back, I don’t know what I was thinking. I must have been going through some dark, dark times. Fast forward a few years, and I’m borderline Mexican food obsessed. To the point where I could go to the local Mexican restaurant and eat their tacos & rice for every meal, every day. If it wasn’t for the fact that they already know my face, I would definitely hit that place up daily.
In fact, this reminds me of a terrible experience that happened a few months ago. I don’t know why I’m sharing this, but whatever. Here it goes. A few months ago, my Mexican food accomplice and I went to the restaurant on a Sunday. We somehow ended up with the same waiter that ALWAYS waits on us. Don’t ask me how this happens. I was a waitress in high school and I know how this whole waiting thing works out. You have to rotate tables. You can’t just pick and choose what tables you take. But apparently it doesn’t work this way at this place. Unless it’s just coincidence, but it has happened far too many times for me to think that is the case. Anyways, point is, we were there on Sunday.
Okay, so fast forward to Tuesday and I get a text while sitting at work. It’s from my Mexican-enabler friend. The mexican craving has hit again and before I know it, I have agreed to go to Mexican AGAIN. (Sidenote: Good thing it’s only like $3 for the whole meal or I would be ba-ba-broke.) But I agreed to go under one condition. If we went to the other branch on the other side of town. I didn’t want THE waiter to see us come back 2 days later. Em-buurrrising. So, off we went.
As we were walking into the restaurant, I jokingly asked my friend if there’s any chance the waiters hop restaurants and work at both. (I had never been to this one before). She said she hadn’t seen that happen in the times she went there before. Good, I thought. Cause that would be real bad.
So we walked in the restaurant, took a look around, and were safe. All new waiters. He was nowhere in sight. Some rando waiter brings us the salsa & chips, and at this point I thought we were in the clear. Until OUT OF NOWHERE…bam, there he is. I was literally in shock. If it wasn’t rude, my mouth would have been wide open. We were caught. And the worst part? He remembered us and said something to the effect of, “Ahhhh, you’re back again?”. Ughhhhh. Just thinking about this experience makes me upset. I thought I was better at hiding than this.
So with all that trauma aside, one of the reasons I love this particular Mexican restaurant so much is because of their delicioso Salsa. It isn’t like the jar salsa at all. It tastes homemade and has a bit more of a kick to it. My friend says that she could drink it with a straw since it’s that good. I’m not sure I would go that far, but it is pretty tasty. I set out to find a recipe that I could make at home instead of flocking to the restaurant 343 times a week. And I’m happy to say that I found a great competitor! I even had approval from the friend who is obsessed with the restaurant salsa. If that doesn’t tell you something, I don’t know what will.

Instructions
-
Place all ingredients in a food processor. Pulse until just combined for chunky salsa or pulse more for smoother salsa. The more you blend it, the more it will look like soup. So be careful, and only blend it for a few seconds!

Now I want Mexican. I blame you. haha.
I totally agree with you about liking it spicy though. I can’t stand when salsa is mild/bland. Lucky I have a ‘THE” Mexican restaurant where I live that never lets me down.

I’ve been having the BIGGEST chips and salsa cravings lately…I really should just make some. The only thing is, I don’t have a food processor. Maybe my bullet blender would work since it only has to be pulsed a couple of times…hm. I think a grocery store trip is in order. Thanks for the recipe, can’t wait to try it out! :)

I actually tried my magic bullet…but it wasn’t mixing very well. I’ve done it in a blender before too…so try that! :)

Yum! Thanks for the recipe!
I’ve also had the same thing happen with a waitress before! She makes me want to eat healthier though. I often wonders if she judges me for having the buffalo crispy chicken sandwich for the 3rd time this week.

Haha ohhhh girl! Nothing to be emburrrrissed about ;) My hubs and I eat at the SAME mexican restaurant weekly, and yes, we have went twice in one week before. We are actually enjoying being regulars, most of the waiters know our order, haha!!
I love me some homemade salsa!!
