When I think about the 4th of July, I think of three main things. Hotdogs, juice barrels (hello childhood jackpot), and birthday cake. My Grandpa and cousin both share a birthday on the 4th, so cake is an obvious necessity every year. The day is usually filled with lots of comfort food, a mini firework show in the farm field, topped off with a s’more-making bon fire. Country living at its finest.
Every year follows the same routine, and while some may consider that boring, there’s something comforting about this monotonous way of life. No matter how much I travel, how many gourmet food blogs I follow, or how many cooking magazines I read – there will always be something about a big bowl of Oreo fluff and Midwest casseroles that brings me out of Internet land and back down to earth. It’s never a competition to see who can bring the fanciest desserts or who can make the Pinterest worthy potato casserole. And there’s definitely no need to decorate the sugar cookies all fancy, because I know they’ll get eaten just as fast with smudged, store bought frosting. It’s the same every year, and that’s what makes it so memorable.
So while these family traditions may not consist of the world’s most delicious macarons or the fanciest cheese spread in all the land, they are what I’ll remember even after I start making traditions of my own. (And you better believe that Lette macarons will be part of these traditions.) It’s funny how fast simple family traditions can bring you straight back to your 10 year old self.
This post didn’t quite turn out how I planned, but I guess what I’m trying to say is that every event or party doesn’t need to be scene straight out of Martha Stewart magazine. Create your own traditions, and whether they’re filled with fun printables, blueberry macarons, or fancy striped straws is up to you.

I love this print out! It would definitely make a great party favor and it has a little bit of an equestrian flair too. I just might use these for something : )

I’ve always thought the 4th of July must be such a fun celebration! I completely agree, sometimes things don’t have to be “perfect” to be perfect :) xo, D
